Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is sending some area children to the hospital. News 5's Ginger ten Bensel spoke with area doctors to find out more in this week's edition of "What's Going Around."

Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice says that colds, bronchitis, sinus infections and RSV are going around.
But he has not seen any cases of the flu for more than a week.
Dr. Janice Kutilek with the Grand Island Clinic says that RSV is terrible.

She says that she had to hospitalize eight kids under the age of two years old with RSV over the weekend because of dehydration.

With RSV make sure your child gets small amounts of fluid frequently. Kutilek says that you can get into trouble if your child refuses to sip water.

Kutilek also had to hospitalize two children with gastroenteritis and one with rotavirus.

Kutilek says that she has not seen any cases of the flu for two weeks and she believes the flu may be winding down.

But she says be careful even if you're well, you are still carrying germs for different illnesses.

Kutilik discussed something that is not going around but it is very serious.

Kutilek says that she had a teenage patient brought in while having a seizure. The patient had overdosed on bath salts. Kutilek says symptoms of an overdose include being very combative, auditory and visual hallucinations, euphoric and prolonged psychosis.

Kutliek says that bath salts work a lot like LSD. If you suspect your child is using bath salts as a drug it's important to watch for behavioral changes like paranoia, grades dropping and skipping class.
