Hastings residents will want to get used to hearing something that sounds like a sonic boom over the next couple of weeks. But it is nothing to worry about.
The Whelan Energy Center Unit 2 is nearing completion and they are making sure everything is ready to go into operation.
They're doing a series of tests that include generating a series of steam blows.
The steam makes a loud noise that can last several minutes, and also causes a plume of steam.
The steam blows are necessary to clean out debris from the steam piping.
"There's nothing bad that can happen from this process with this or anything like that. It can be noticeable," said Steve Cogley, Hastings Utilities.
The steam blows will begin Thursday and can happen up to 4 times an hour. They will happen over the next 2 weeks and only during daylight hours.
