Widening plans begin for 12th Street in Hastings
The major project to widen 12th Street in Hastings is still in the works. You've probably already noticed trees cut down in the area.
The plan is to widen 12th street to three lanes between Elm and Sixth Avenues. This will allow for better traffic operations and handling of Hastings college events by adding a center turning lane. According to the City Engineer Dave Wacker plans for the project have been turned into the State Department of Roads. The city of Hastings is now just waiting on their approval. They hope to begin construction in April. The Mount Sinai Jewish Cemetery will also be affected. Wacker says gates there will have to be moved back 20 feet. The city plans to have that completed by next month. |
