Woman appears in court for Landon Payne abuse case

by Amy West

One of three people charged in the death of a 4 year old Minden boy made an appearance in court Thursday. 19 year old Katie Payne waved her preliminary trial in Kearney County Thursday afternoon.

She'll go to trial on charges of aiding and abetting child abuse leading to death.

4 year old Landon Payne died at Good Samaritan Hospital back in December. State Patrol investigators said it was the worst case of child abuse he had ever seen.

Landon had been living with his aunt, Sharon Turnell, and her husband who are also charged in the case.

The couple said the boy was injured in a fall from a bunk bed, but doctors who treated the boy say he had numerous injuries in various stages of healing.

Katie is Sharon's daughter.
