Senator Nelson outraged by military documents leak

by KHAS-TV

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson is calling the person or people responsible for a massive leak of military documents a traitor. Senator Nelson, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said those responsible should be tried for treason.

The classified military documents on the Afghanistan war were published by the online site WikiLeaks Sunday.

Senator Nelson and other U.S. officials said soldiers and others could be in danger because of the disclosure.

He said it is crucial to "vigorously" pursue the source of the leaks.

"We have to do everything we can to stop the leaks and when they occur, throw the full force of the law against those who choose to do that," said Nelson.

The FBI and Defense Department are conducting a criminal investigation into the leaked documents.
