Hastings resident, Mary E. Underwood, 83, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Mary was born August 23, 1928 in Westboro, Missouri to Christopher and Mary (Steinhaus) Laumann. Mary graduated in 1946 from Tarkio High School Tarkio, Missouri. She also graduated from Commercial Extension Business College, Omaha, Nebraska. Mary married Olin Underwood on June 20, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, LWML – Ruth Circle and Hastings Quilt Guild. Mary worked for Hastings Public Schools for 16 years. Mary enjoyed sewing, gardening, singing in GSV choir, and doing volunteer work for RSVP.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-laws, Jesse Pursell and Merlin Umland; sister-in-law, Peggy Laumann; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Opal & Ross Janes

Services will be Saturday, July 21, 2012; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church or Donor’s Choice.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 19, 2012; 4:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. and Friday, July 20, 2012; 1:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. with family present 6:30 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Viewing will also be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
