Bettie D. Monson, 102, of Central City, formerly of Clarks, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Clarks Congregational Church in Clarks with Reverend James Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery near Genoa. Visitation will be Friday, October 5, from 5-7 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.

Bettie was born on October 25, 1909 in Clarks, Nebraska to William and Catherine (Hansen) Kohl. She grew up in Clarks, and received her education at School District #7 in rural Clarks.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Monson on December 27, 1928 in Columbus, Nebraska. The couple lived in Polk County for the next twenty years farming until they moved to Clarks in 1948.

Bettie was a member of the Clarks United Methodist Church for 50 years and then joined the Congregational Church when she could no longer master the many steps at the Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Clarks Lions Club, Rebecca Lodge, the Sunnyside Club, and the Senior Citizen’s Club in Clarks.

Survivors include her sisters, Bessie Peterson of Clarks, NE; and Paulene Hemmer of St. Libory, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Monson, two sisters, Martha Darnall, and Elsie Grosch, three brothers, Arthur Kohl, John Kohl Sr., and Bill Kohl Sr., and nieces and nephews.
