Thomas G. Stithem, 68 of Grand Island died Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church. Reverend David Wietzke will officiate. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mr. Stithem was born November 6, 1944 in Broken Bow the son of Otto and Ruth Fern (Hartson) Stithem.
Survivors include his wife, Janet; children and their spouses, Todd and Marla Knecht of Wood River, Kimberly Mostek of Hastings and Lisa Knecht of Twin Falls, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Gwen Stithem of Broken Bow and sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Jim Welch of York.
Other survivors are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn.
Thomas was raised and received his education in Broken Bow and Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1962. He proudly served his country in the United States Army serving in Vietnam.
On July 7, 1992 he was united in marriage to Janet Pollock. They made their home in Wood River and Grand Island. Thomas was employed for the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
Memberships include Christ Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in memory of Thomas.
