Memorial Services for Richard W. Richardson will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Virginia Fleharty officiating. Military honors will be provided by Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the U.S. Navy Military Honors Team following the service. Private family inurnment will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery at a later date.
Richard Willie “Dick” Richardson, 82 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born September 19, 1930 at Hastings, Nebraska, the youngest of three boys born to William Eugene “W.E.” and Dorothy (Burrows) Richardson. He received his education in Hastings, Nebraska.
On December 30, 1950 he was inducted into the United States Navy and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on October 21, 1954. He was very proud to have served his country.
On April 8, 1956, Dick was united in marriage to LaDonna Jean Troxel and to this union two sons were born: Richard and Jeffrey. The family made their home in Holdrege. LaDonna passed away on September 12, 1988.
Dick was a talented mechanic and welder. He was employed by the Holdrege CO-OP and McClymont Implement. Dick was also self-employed, running Hiniker Fertilizer Equipment in Holdrege.
On September 6, 1996, he was united in marriage to Alice Christensen.
He enjoyed tinkering on everything, watching his son, Jeff race motocross and Jet skis, and loved going to Laughlin, Nevada to play nickel slots. He especially enjoyed his dogs and cats. Dick loved going to his salvage yard and tinkering and he also enjoyed going to the Cozy-Inn for breakfast with his friends.
He was a Charter Member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #3132 in Holdrege, the Holdrege Elks Lodge, and a retired member the Holdrege Volunteer Fire Department.
Besides his wife, LaDonna, Dick was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Ruby (Gardin) Richardson, brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Lola Richardson; and brother, Eugene Richardson.
