David E. ‘Dave’ Matthiessen, 62, of Grand Island, died Monday, December 10, 2012 at Saint Francis Medical Center.
Service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church with Reverend Sheri Lodel officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Dave was born November 14, 1950 in Grand Island, the son of Marvin and Evelyn (Haskins) Matthiessen.
Survivors include his children, Zaccariah Matthiessen and his wife Florence of Grand Island, Josh Matthiessen of Grand Island and Savanna Matthiessen of Lincoln; brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Lori Matthiessen of Milford and Roger Matthiessen and Barbara McGowan of Grand Island.
Those also left to cherish his memory include six grandchildren, Sven, Kal, Mila, Lucy, Siara and Kye; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and Shania and Dolly, his furry, four-legged companions.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Trinity.
Dave grew up in Grand Island, attending Northwest High School, living his life in central Nebraska. He was employed by Chief Industries and worked as a body man at his brother, Roger’s body shop.
Dave enjoyed growing fabulous gardens and watching ‘Jeopardy’ daily. However, family came first with Dave. He was the best grandpa and enjoyed anything that involved his family. He will be remembered for his love of music, always singing and whistling, and his amazing homemade pies. We love you Dave, and you will be in our hearts forever.
