A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Beaver Crossing with Rev. Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Interment will be in Leland Cemetery near Beaver Crossing. Visitation will be noon-8pm, Thursday with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6-8pm at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Beaver Crossing. Memorials have been established to the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church, Seward County Historical Society and the Beaver Crossing Library.

Alta Evelyn Krasser was born April 28, 1912, to Edgar Edward and Blanche Emma (Hannah) Buckingham, on a farm southwest of Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, the oldest of four children and passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Friend Manor in Friend at the age of 100 years, 8 months and 2 days. At the age of 9, she lost her mother and took over the household at the age of 11. She was baptized and confirmed at the Beaver Crossing Methodist Church, becoming a member in 1926 and began teaching Sunday School at the age of 15 and taught until she was in her 90’s. Alta graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1930, earning her Normal Teaching Certificate and taught District #39 for six years. She was united in marriage at the United Methodist Parsonage on August 10, 1936 to Elmer Legrand Krasser and they spent their entire married lives on the farm where Elmer moved with his family at the age of three.

Alta was a life-long member of the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and taught Sunday School for more than 75 years. She also served her church in many other capacities, as needed. She was always interested in children and young people, and was an active supporter of 4-H and scouting programs, serving as a 4-H leader for 51 years and as a Cub Scout Den Mother for 15 years.

The family was charter members of the Seward County Historical Society and Alta was also a charter member of the state and county genealogical societies. Her interest in local history and genealogy was the foundation for her hobbies of local and family history projects. Alta was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The family was also active members of the Flowing Well Grange and supported many of the Grange’s community service projects. Alta was a supporter and spent many hours helping with the Beaver Crossing Library and many other local community projects. She also wrote many articles for the B.C. LIFE under the pseudonym of “Anonymous”. Alta was a cancer survivor for more than 40 years proving that one can beat cancer and live a good long life.

Alta is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dave Jurgensen, Cordova, four grandchildren and spouses, Mark and Jennifer (Timm) Jurgensen, Plainview, MN, Paul and Amy (Horton) Jurgensen, Cordova, Shaun (Krasser) and Kevin Newrones, Mission Viejo, CA, Troy Krasser, Plattsmouth, NE, nine great-grandchildren, Christian, Emily, Timothy, James Jurgensen, Levi and Lynn Jurgensen, Clare Kinkaid, Maxton Howell, and Cole Krasser, and two step-great-grandchildren, Geoffrey and Gerrod Britton, daughter-in-law, Pat and David Billings, Plattsmouth, NE, sister-in-law, Dorothy Farthing, Colorado Springs, CO, nephews, nieces and their families and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer in 1985, an infant son, son, Dennis in 1998, sister Pearl Rhoades, two brothers, Edward and Willard Buckingham, sister-in-law, Dora Buckingham, brother-in-law, Frank Rhoades.
