Funeral Services for Arvid “Laval” Freeburg will be conducted from the Christian Homes Chapel on Friday, January 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Gene Layne and Chaplin DeWane Dow officiating. Interment will follow at Moses Hill Cemetery.
Arvid “Laval” Freeburg, 76 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Laval was born on November 22, 1936 in Elk County, Pennsylvania the younger of two sons born to Arvid Harvey and Lillian Augusta (Johnson) Freeburg. Laval attended primary school until the 5th grade in Pennsylvania and graduated from Holdrege High School with the Class of 1954.
On November 18, 1956 he was united in marriage to Carla Ann Broeker. The family was blessed with three children: Jeff, Tim and Sue. They made their home in Holdrege.
Laval, along with his brother, Rudy and father, Harvey, started a Big Band group called “Laval Freeburg and the Starlight Serenaders”. They played as a group for over 25 years. Carla playing the drums in the band for several years.
He was employed by Sidles working out of O’Neill, Holdrege, and Grand Island, Nebraska, and Phillipsburg, Kansas. Laval was later employed by Becton-Dickinson for 27 years, retiring in 1998.
Laval enjoyed collecting electric model trains, fishing and playing and listening to big band music.
Laval was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Neal Rudolph “Rudy” Freeburg and his wife, Beverly, sisters-in-law: Marjorie (Brown) and Dick Dyas, Berniece and Roland McQuiston, brothers-in-law: Kenneth “Bud” Broeker, Robert Broeker, Oral and Pearl Broeker, Stanley Langenberg, Harold Brown, Jr., Milton “Tilly” Thulin and Doug York.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 56 years, Carla of Holdrege, children: Jeff Freeburg and his wife, Cheri, and their children, Matthew and Kyle, all of Broomfield, Colorado, Tim Freeburg and his wife, Robin, and their children, Claire, Michael and Kelly, all of Holdrege, and daughter, Sue Freed and her husband, Martin and their children, Jenny and Kristi of Loomis, Nebraska, brother-in-law: Wallace Broeker and wife, Ortha of Orleans, Nebraska, sisters-in-law: LoRee Broeker of Oxford, Nebraska, Phyllis Thulin of Oxford, Nebraska, Ardis Procter and her husband, Carl of Oxford, Donna Dallman, and her husband, Myron of Macon, Nebraska, Janice Maaske and her husband, Darrell of rural Oxford, Nebraska, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Christian Homes Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30p.m.
A memorial has been established and can be made to the family.
