William G. “Bill” Warneke, 92, of Grand Island, died Sunday, January 06, 2013 at the Grand Island VA Medical Center.
To honor his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mr. Warneke was born October 19, 1920 at Yorktown, Iowa, to Henry and Zoe (Sherman) Warneke.
Survivors of his immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Carol Warneke of Portland, Oregon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janeen and Darell Lange of Woodbine, Iowa and Patty and Mick Hamar of Long Valley, South Dakota; and a brother, Richard Warneke of Clarinda, Iowa.
Also surviving are five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma.
Bill grew up on the family farm near Clarinda, Iowa. He entered the United States Army Air Corp on September 4, 1942, serving during WWII and was honorably discharged on November 4, 1945.
He was united in marriage to Wilma Helen Meyer on September 2, 1945. The couple lived on the family farm and later farmed near South Sioux City, NE. While in South Sioux, he was employed with Culligan Softwater and Farmers Coop. Following Wilma’s passing in 1988, Bill moved to Grand Island.
Bill was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. His enjoyments included bowling and rodeos.
