Sutton resident Joseph T. Sisel, 95, died Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, NE.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton, NE with Father William Holoubek officiating. Interment will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, at the Seward Cemetery near Seward, NE. Visitation will be Thursday, from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE and one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Mary’s Parish hall fund, Sutton Volunteer Fire Department or the Sutton Memorial Library.
Joseph T. Sisel was born July 2, 1917, to Anton, Sr. and Tonie (Tesina) Sisel east of Dwight, NE in Butler County. He graduated from Dwight High School in 1934 and attended colleges at Wahoo and Fremont, NE. He taught in Butler and Saunders County rural schools for 6 years. He married Ella Coufal on June 4, 1941; she died December 30, 1981.
Joseph served with the 8th Air Force, 52nd Fighter Control Squadron air, sea rescue in England for 31 months during World War II. The family lived in Lincoln from 1946 until 1977. Mr. Sisel retired as accounting manager for Gooch Milling and Elevator Company in 1977. They moved to a farm east of Dwight in 1977. He married Leoma R. Boehler of Sutton on August 27, 1983, at the Dwight Assumption Church.
He served on the Sutton Memorial Library Board for several years. He was a member of the Sutton American Legion Post#61 and the Geneva VFW Post# 7102.
He is survived by his wife, Leoma of Sutton, NE; son, Wayne (Ann) Sisel of St. Paul, MN; granddaughters, Andrea Sisel (Sean Sexton) of Minnesota; Tania Sisel of Colorado; brother, Frank (Rosalyn) of Raytown, MO; sisters, Emily Stehlik of Wilber, NE; Adeline Cihal of Davey, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.
