Sidney “Sid” O. Johnson, 93, of Kearney died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. Gary Main and Rev. Stan Murdoch will officiate. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation is planned Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or prior to services Friday at the church. He was born September 9, 1919 to Oscar and Myrtle (Peckman) Johnson at the family farm south of Kearney. He attended country school in Kearney County then graduated from Kearney High School in 1934. He attended Kearney Normal School.
On January 26, 1939 he married A. Jane Weist in Phillipsburg, KS. The couple lived south of Kearney where they farmed in the Platte River Valley. They moved to the McConnell Subdivision in 1976. His wife died in 1990.
He married Vienna (Vi) Krull November 9, 1991 in Kearney, she died in 2011.
He was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. He enjoyed farming along the south Platte River, the Chicago Cubs, traveling south during the winter, listening and singing along to classic country music and playing golf.
Surviving relatives include son; Herb and wife Linda Johnson of Kearney and grandsons; Matt and Chris Johnson, daughters; Judy Hall of Lonetree, CO and grandsons; Jeffrey and Michael Hall, Nancy Van Horn of Lincoln and granddaughters; Kristine Amack and Sarah Helvey, sister; Irene Moore of Kearney, stepsons; Gary and wife Margaret Krull of Williamsburg, Virginia and Ron and wife Judy Krull of Huxley, IA, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren.
In addition to his wives he is preceded in death by one grandson; R. Scott Hall, son-in-law; Jim Van Horne, brother; Norris and his wife Beverly Johnson and sister; Ardis Stanford.
