Memorial service Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11 am at Union Church, Lake City, IA. Burial at a later date at Lake Creek Cemetery, Lake City, IA.
Merlin LeRoy Gregg, of Milford, was born September 16, 1940 in Lake City, Iowa to Walter and Violet Berniece (Pierce) Gregg, and passed away on Thursday, Jan-31, 2013, in Casa Grande, AZ, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 15 days. He attended country school and later graduated from Lake City High School with the class of 1958. Merlin attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1963. He was united in marriage to Alice Rose Strain on February 24, 1963 in Lake City, Iowa.
He taught school in Massena and Little Rock, Iowa. He later moved to Iliff, Colorado where he taught for a year before moving back to Nebraska. He joined the Banker’s Life Nebraska – Lincoln Agency where he remained for 16 years. Merlin later became an Independent Insurance Agent and Registered Representative and worked out of his home.
Merlin was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and served on many church boards. He enjoyed his children, his grandchildren, the companionship he shared with Lois, golf, hunting, playing cards and spending the winters in Fiesta Grande RV Park in Casa Grande.
Merlin is survived by special friend, Lois Graff, sons and daughter-in-law, Tony and Beth Gregg, San Antonio, TX, Wesley Gregg, Lincoln, daughters and sons-in-law, Heidi and Steve Thompson, Martinez, GA, Heather and Patrick Kadavy, Lincoln, Vicki and Terry Arnold, Fairbury, Valorie and Keith Halsey, Omaha, Janice and Doug Cunningham, Beaver Crossing, 20 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Ardis and Jim Andrews, The Villages, FL, brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Carolyn Gregg, Ronnie and Carol Gregg, Kim Gregg, all of Lake City, IA, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter S. Gregg, his mother, Violet Berniece (Pierce) Gregg, his wife, Alice Rose (Strain) Gregg, eight grandchildren, Lauren Marie Arnold, Gabriella-Hope Thompson, Johnathan Thompson, Grace-Lyn Thompson, Isabella Thompson, Aaron Thompson, Eternity Thompson and Autumn Thompson
