Farmers face even more drought problems

Tools

As we continue to deal with drought conditions farmers are facing new problems. Not only are rivers and lakes drying up, published reports say some are having to dig new wells.

The Lower Big Blue Natural Resource District confirmed that when they're going to pump water, they're getting nothing but air. Their wells are drying up.

The underlying problem - the water table is dropping because it's not being replenished.

We've had little rain, and because of it, farmers have had to irrigate their crops substantially more this season.

There's little that can be done, except hope mother nature cooperates through the end of the irrigation season.
