Lawmakers plan bill to push for buying local

Staying local. That's the goal of a bill lawmakers are expected to consider during the next legislative session.

Omaha Senator Heath Mello says the legislation would require Nebraska to give preference to in-state companies when awarding government contracts.

Mello says the Buy Nebraska bill would be beneficial for the state because it would help recycle state tax dollars back into the economy.

Mello introduced a bill last year that would have required the purchase of American-made iron, steel and manufactured goods by Nebraska state agencies.
