Legislature revisits language for sentencing laws

Nebraska lawmakers have advanced a measure to clean up language in the state's sentencing laws. In a ruling by the Nebraska Supreme Court, it says state lawmakers went too far in a 2002 special session.

The language stated that the minimum penalty for first-degree murder is life in prison "without parole."

Lexington Senator John Wightman's bill would strike the words "without parole'' from the law.

The bill now goes to a final round of debate.
