Utility to make power from Lincoln landfill gas
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Lincoln Electric System has agreed to buy
landfill gas from the city of Lincoln. The city and the utility announced their 20-year deal on Tuesday. There also is an option to extend the deal 15 years. The first-year gas cost will be about $300,000 for a million British thermal units a year. The utility says electricity generated from that amount of gas could meet the annual needs of more than 2,400 households. The utility will invest about $6.4 million for methane gas cleaning and compressing equipment, a gas pipeline and generating equipment. The location of the generation plant is being studied.
