All three Hastings high schools were on the court last night competing for chances to play in the state tournament. The Patriots of Adams Central were the only one of the three to reach that goal.

After falling behind 19-2 to the Milford Eagles, the Patriots rallied to tie the game a 33 at the half, pull away to an 8 point lead in the 4th quarter, then hold off the Eagles for a 71-66 victory.

The Patriots play in the state C-1 quarterfinals in Lincoln a week from Thursday.

"It's unbelievable, it's a dream come true ever since I don't know, I've looked up to seniors and said, oh I want to be like them and O my goodness we're here," said Matt Brown.

"Talk about how its been a great year for Adams Central in the football semi finals and now basketball. You know kind of that football momentum carried on in the basketball a little bit. We've kind of got that football mentality. We can deal with any kind of adversity you throw at us and we feel like we're fully prepared for state, we've experienced just about every kind of game you have had we feel like that's prepared us like any other for the state tournament," Jake Fowler said.

The Patriots are now 21-5, have won 5 in a row and return to the state tournament for the first time in four year against an opponent yet to be named in those quarterfinals next Thursday.

We'll let you know whom they play and when as soon as we know.

As we would expect, Adams Central Students, fans and faculty came out in force last night to see their team win the district championship in Grand Island.

One of those enthusiastic fans is used to having many people cheer for his team. None other than long time Adams Central football coach Bill Carlin was front and center cheering for the Patriots, many of whom also play football for the school.

After leading his team to the state semi-finals last season, coach Carlin has been chosen as the head coach of the South team in the Nebraska Shrine All-Star game June 1st at Foster Field in Kearney..Running back Jake Fowler and receiver Jesse Ackerman will be on the South squad.
