Coach Pelini subpoenaed for Dennard trial

Husker football coach Bo Pelini has been subpoenaed to testify in the trial of former Husker defensive back Alfonzo Dennard.

Dennard, now a defensive back for the New England Patriots, is on trial for assaulting a police officer in Lincoln last April.

Defense attorney Terry Dougherty requested Pelini testify via video conference call if he is out of town or if his schedule does not allow him to appear in court in person.

He may be called as a character witness for Dennard.

The coach has answered questions under oath for the prosecution in a private meeting Friday.

The case is scheduled to go to the jury Tuesday.
