Five Star Performer: Blake Micek
Not too many people can say they have three gold medals in the 100m at the state track meet. But that is exactly what St. Cecilia Bluehawk Blake Micek hopes he'll be able to say later this week after competing in the 110th state track meet.
"He's almost a guaranteed 20 points at an invitational," said Vince Pelster, St. Cecilia Boy Track Coach.
Quite a compliment coming from St. Cecilia's Vince Pelster, a 40-year veteran of Nebraska high school track and field.
The good words said about Bluehawk sprinter Blake Micek winner of the last two class C gold medals at 100m making him a marked man at the state meet this year.
"I know I have a target on my back, um I have experience at the state track meet so I know what it's like to run there and I think that's an advantage," said Blake Micek, 2010-11 100m Gold medalist.
Though Micek has a whole window case full of individual medals the senior never forgets he is part of a team.
"He's been on that 4x1 relay now for four years he added the 4x4 this year and he does it for the team. I heard him say a number of times this year when he was being interviewed by people, "that it's the team it's not him," and that's a message that I'm so happy to hear him say," said Pelster.
As far as a prediction on his performance this weekend at the state meet.
"I'm not going to guess any places because that could always come back and haunt me but I mean I just know that if I run how I know I can run then I think it will end up pretty good," said Micek.
Blake's Father Tom on the other hand thinks if the conditions are right the Bluehawk could be perched atop the Class C Record Book.
"If he has a good day and its warm and it's supposed to be warm I'm kinda hoping to see him break that class C 100m mark. I think that's 10.8, but you know everything's gonna have to be in his favor and there is some good quality athletes he is going to be competing against," said Tom Micek, Blake's Father
Micek's fastest time this season is 10.84seconds so 10.8 is a very realistic goal for the sprinter.
