Four weeks from Friday the horses will be running at Fonner Park for the tracks' 59th season. The magic date is Friday, February 24th with the first post time set for 2:00.
The horses are already working out each morning, like Thursday here at the track in anticipation of this year's meeting. There are 31 race dates set which stretch from the 24th of next month until the day of the Kentucky Derby, May 5th.
Horsemen are anxious to see what these animals can do.
For trainers like Temple and Rushton, they can't get all of their horses out on the track every morning, so it'll take some time for all of them to get ready.
Once the bell rings, they hope their animals are in shape for the long to make some money.
Here are some key dates to remember in addtion to that opening day on February 24th:
The track's signature race the Gus Fonner Bosselman Handicap will be Saturday April 28th, and the Al Swihart Memorial will be on get away day, May 5th.
The track will stick to the traditional Friday through Sunday schedule with the track dark Easter Sunday, April 8th.
