Just two days after GICC lost basketball coach Bill Gavers to Hastings College, the Crusaders have promoted Tino Martinez to be head coach.

Tino has been an assistant to Bill the past 10 years. The Grand Island high school graduate has put together the tremendously successful Heartland Hoops Classic the past six years each February.

Tino is the owner of Pro Team Design sporting goods outlet in Grand Island and is best known as manager of the Grand Island Home Federal Legion baseball team for over a decard that he has brought to nationals.

He is very happy today.

News 5 asked Tino if he can possibly still manage the Home Federal Squad, tend to his business and be a full time head basketball coach. After all, the seasons do not conflict.

The Crusaders lose four seniors from this season's squad that went 13-12.

Returning next season among others is the big man Yohanna Gfan who should be on of the area's best players.
