Game of the Week: Giltner vs Kenesaw (9/13/12)
As we know, 8 man football is a free wheeling, usually high scoring game that keeps fans on the edge of their seats. The 80 yard field makes for more touchdowns.
We should see a number of those Friday night as the top ranked Giltner Hornets take on the #2 rated Kenesaw Blue Devils in the battle of unbeatens. That contest is our Aurora Cooperative Game of the Week. Outstanding quarterbacks lead their team. Tyler Schnitzler for the Kenesaw Bluedevils and Jake Findlay for the GIltner Hornets. Both guys know how to win. The Devils were 11-1 last season, the Hornets were 10-1 both playoff teams. The sign here in Kenesaw says it all, football at Giltner Friday at 7:00, little more needs to be said. "It's an exciting week for both teams. I think it's a measuring stick that we're looking at as far as our team, where we stand at this point and also prepare us for our district play," said Kenesaw Coach Craig Schnitzler. "Jake is our second year starter coming in and he's really picked up the offense and he makes really good reads when he throws the football and now we've done a lot of summer work and he's gotten really good at it," Giltner Coach Jeff Ashby said. The field is quiet now at the home of the Hornets. Friday night ,it comes alive with this battle of unbeatens. Friday night Kenesaw and Giltner, it doesn't get any more exciting than this, what do you think? "I think it's going to be a good game, it's going to be high tempo, high intensity, expect to see some big numbers, it just depends on how the defense plays," said Giltner lineman Dillon Gartner. Can you feel the excitement of this one, the Giltner Hornets and Kenesaw Bluedevils, both unbeaten? "Uh yeah, there's a lot of talk going around now about how the game is going to go, we have to try and do our best to see how it turns out," said Kenesaw quarterback Tyler Schnitzler. The teams haven't met since the 2009 season. Since Kenesaw dropped to Class D-2 from D-1 they could meet not only Friday, but later in the playoffs. What does an impartial observer whose expertise of Nebraska high school football is second to none? "Well, Ed, I tell you what, Giltner-Kenesaw, a great matchup. It's one of those things where you've got two of the top teams in all of 8 man. Giltner's got a lot of weapons, so does Kenesaw, I like Giltner to win the ballgame, I think maybe GIltner's got the kind of defense that can slow Kenesaw down enough to win the ballgame. A note, top 3 rushers in D-2 after two weeks, all Schnitzlers. You can look it up," said Huskerland Prep Editor Bob Jensen. So will the Hornets Fear the Fork or will the Giltner Hornets sting? We'll find out Friday as the football action at the home of the Hornets promises to be red hot. |
