Husker Shields honored for basketball excellence
All season the Achilles heel for the Nebraska basketball team has been scoring - you know, the object of the game.
Big Red, owners of the worst scoring offense in the league at just under 59 points per game. But Nebraska may have found a remedy for their woes in freshman Shavon Shields. The rookie from Olathe, Kansas earned Big Ten freshman of the week honors Monday for two stellar performances against Purdue and Penn State. Shields put up 18 in Wednesday's loss to the Boilermakers which was his career high until he went silly Saturday afternoon in Happy Valley shooting 10 for 11 from the floor on his way to a 29 point afternoon. With the honor, Shields becomes the first Cornhusker freshman to win the weekly award since Toney McCray in the 2008-2009 season. |
