Husker anticipation grows as first game draws near

Here's a quick college football question. Which team has more recently won a National Championship in football? Is it Western Kentucky or Nebraska?

If you answered Western Kentucky, you are correct.

The Hilltoppers won the NCAA Division 1–AA championship in 2002.

Since then the names of the Divisions have changed and the Western Kentucky team that will face these Huskers have moved up to what they call FBS or Division One football.

Nebraska will take the field and face a team that has lost its last 20 games, but a team that has hope as Willie Taggert returns as head coach.

The new coach, an assistant at Stanford the past 3 seasons, was a great quarterback himself at Western Kentucky, though he said taking his team to Nebraska is a tough way to begin his head coaching career.

The question in camp for the Huskers is which player will be under center when the offense takes the field against the Hilltoppers.

Coach Bo Pelini, who will be a guest on the Jim Rome radio show Wednesday, may have made up his mind, but gives us no indication whether it will be Zac Lee, Cody Green or Taylor Martinez to start at quarterback.
