Huskers move steadily forward to Minnesota
Ok, Husker fans, have you made your reservations for Indianapolis? How about Pasadena? Well, as our good friend Lee Corso for ESPN Game Day would say: "not so fast, my friend."
Remember this, Nebraska must win its final two games to assure itself a trip to the Big 10 title game December 1st . They would play against the Wisconsin Badgers whom I'm sure would love to play the Huskers again with the league title and trip to the Rose Bowl at stake after narrowly losing to them in Lincoln. However, the Huskers have Minnesota and Iowa ahead of them. Minnesota is much improved, bowl eligible with six wins coming to Lincoln Saturday. Though Iowa is slumping, especially with Saturday's loss to Purdue, they'll be fired up for the Heros game the day after Thanksgiving over at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. Yet dare we dream, Husker fans.... Nebraska versus Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl January 1st? Well. we are getting WAY ahead of ourselves, but that's a possibility. Ok, back to reality, and the next game, Nebraska and Minnesota Saturday at Memorial Stadium. With two games left in the regular season the Huskers know exactly where they want to be, win their final two contests against Minnesota and Iowa and they'll be heading to Indianapolis to take on the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big 10 Champoinship game as they try to win their first conference title since 1999. "That's what we're playing for, that's the main reason why we're playing and we need to go ahead and get it done. It's that time and we need to stand up. For the last four years we played around and now its time to stop playin gnad get the job done," said P.J. Smith. "I understand what's at stake and they do and we've got two tough games ahead of us and we just have to stay the course," said Coach Bo Pelini. "We just have to take one game at a time just like any other approach to a game. We just have to win there and come out the way we do and if we come out with a loss so be it," Taylor Martinez said. Up next for the Huskers it's the Minnesota Golden Gophers coming into Lincoln. Kickoff is 2:30 Saturday as it will be the final game for 29 Nebraska seniors here on senior day. |
