Osborne leaves behind a rich Nebraska legacy
Tom Osborne has left his mark not only on the University of Nebraska but on the Cornhusker State. That's not more evident than here in Hastings.
Hastings residents view Osborne as one of their own and rightfully so. When visitors drive into town they know they've entered the town where Tom Osborne grew up. He was born here in 1937. Osborne went onto Hastings High and was a three sport star in football basketball, and track. In 1955, he was named the Omaha World Herald Athlete of the year. Doctor Tom decided to pass on scholarship offers from large schools like Nebraska to follow a family tradition and attend Hastings College. Osborne's grandfather, father, brother and son are all alums. Despite becoming one of the best college football coaches of all-time Osborne has never forgotten about his roots. He serves as an honorary trustee at Hastings College. Osborne is largely responsible for the $14.5 million athletic facilities on campus known as Hastings College Osborne Family Sports Complex. And he recently attended the inauguration of Hastings College President Dennis Trotter. |
