Rex Burkhead was recognized for his exemplary community service efforts Tuesday by being named to the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Burkhead has been active in the community throughout his time in Lincoln and is a three time member of the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team.

Most notably, Burkhead has developed a friendship with six year old Jack Hoffman, who has been battling brain cancer.

He has also spoken at various schools and hosted tours of Memorial Stadium for children recovering from life-threatening illness.

Rex is the 12th Husker football player to receive the honor since it was created in 1992.

A total of 117 players were nominated from all across the country and from the nominations, the team was selected by a panel of former Good Works Team members and media.
