Tom Osborne announces retirement

Wednesday marked the beginning of the end for an era in Nebraska that spans 50 years.

Tom Osborne is retiring as Nebraska Athletic Director.

The announcement was made Wednesday morning at Memorial Stadium.

Osborne has served in the position of Athletic Director since 2007 when former AD Steve Pederson was let go.

During Wednesday's announcement Osborne said his age played a role in his decision:

"Whether you're able to function or not, just the perception that you're getting old can get in the way. I don't want to be one of those guys that everyone's walking around wringing their hands trying to figure out what are we going to do with him."
