When Jordan Burroughs won his gold medal in Olympic wrestling, Husker fans were thrilled. Jordan is likely to try to duplicate that performance in Rio De Janiero in 2016.

After that, wrestling will no longer be in the Olympics. The International Olympic Committee has voted to eliminate the sport starting with the 2020 games.

The committee sites low TV ratings and poor crowds for what is being called a surprise decision.

The committee considered eliminating the Modern Pentathelon from the 25 core Olympic sports, but they'll go with wrestling instead.

Both Jordan Burroughs Olympic teammate and former UNK wrestler Tervel Dlagnev said they'd try to make the 2016 Olympic team now ahead of the decision to discontinue the sport which has been part of the modern Olympics since 1896. Of course former Husker Rulon Gardner won the 2000 heavyweight gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Incidentally, Nebraska's state wrestling tournament is this week Thursday through Saturday.
