Adams Central Senior is this weeks Five Star Performer
The Adams Central athletic program is in the middle of a very successful sports year.
Coach Bill Carlin's football team made it all the way to the state semi-finals and Zac Foster's basketball squad is off to a nine and two start looking to make some noise in class C-2.
While winning is a team effort, t the Patriots look to Senior Brady Barrett to lead the way. News 5's News 5 Sports talked with him for this week's Aurora Cooperative News 5 Five Star Performer.
The Five Star performer is supposed to highlight the accomplishments of a single player and show the public why an individual achieves success and while Adams Central's Brady Barrett is successful on the court he knows it takes a team to win games not just one player.
"This team is very close. We're all pretty good friends we're all juniors and seniors so it's not like we have some kids that don't know each other that well this team bonds very well," said Brady Barrett, Adams Central Senior.
Having started for the patriots since his sophomore year it's easy to see Brady is blessed with talent.
Taking a closer look though shows the senior does all the other things it takes to succeed on the court.
"The first thing you think about when you think about Brady is just his work ethic. He's put a ton of time into the game.
He's got tremendous shooting skills because of that time that effort he puts in," said Zac Foster, AC Head Basketball Coach.
Putting in a good effort is something Barrett is used to and he understands when he moves to the next level of competition there are certain things he will need to improve to stay successful on the court.
"Probably the biggest thing is defense and more athletic and I think with two years at junior college I can get to that point and get more athletic not really quicker just quicker on the defensive end," said Barrett.
And that attitude is what makes players at AC lookup to Barrett.
"I think there's a certain level of respect from everybody again just because of the time he puts in.
In your leadership you need guys that are willing to work and he's definitely willing to put in that time to get better every day," said Foster.
With just two loses this year one to an undefeated Minden squad in what was a close game all the to the end hopes are high for the Patriots as they look ahead to the second half of the season and beyond.
"I hope we win state that's the goal. Conferences and districts we want all those I think we can.
It's a very good team we're playing good defense we can score; we hope we win state that's obviously the goal," said Barrett.
With their sights set high the Patriots have something to work towards as the season progresses and the next step in the process comes Friday night when AC travels to Northwest to take on a Viking team they have already beat by 17.
