Centura Coach Kathy Mettenbrink will bring her Lady Centurions to the Class C-1 state tournament quarterfinals Thursday night in Lincoln against defending state champion Sandy Creek.

Kathy is truly a legend in the coaching circles and is our News 5 Five Star Performer of the Week sponsored by Aurora Cooperative.

Coach Mettenbrink looks like she can swing a mean wiffle ball bat here in Phys Ed Class at Centura school.

She's better known as one of Nebraska's great high school basketball coaches with 477 victories and 11 teams she has taken to the state tournament in her 3 decades of coaching.

She'll take her squad into a monumental challenge facing the defending champs against another coaching guru in Russ Ninemire of the Cougars.

Kathy is a true icon of basketball even before she coached since she was one of the first women who played on a high school and then at Hastings College.

Two of Kathy's Centura teams have played in state championship games, but the Centurions have yet to come away with a state title.

She and her team get another chance at the coveted prize starting tomorrow night at 7:00 in the capital city.
