The UNK Loper track program has had its share of outstanding performers. Hurdler Allen Osborn is one of those. In fact, he is a national champion. In this week's News 5 Five Star performer sponsored by Aurora Cooperative, News 5's Kyle Thomas reports that Allen is far from finished impressively winning races.

On March 10th 2012, Allen Osborn became just the fourth UNK male track athlete to win an individual national title at the Division Two level taking the gold in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles in a school record time of 7.78 seconds.

"I respect everybody that's there so far. For me to go in there and win it's obviously a big accomplishment for me. My ultimate goal when I started training this summer was to win nationals so to beat Etheridge, etc, it was big for me," said Osborn.

The senior and four time All-American made huge strides during the season the event cutting 33 hundreths of a second off his best time as a junior. Coach Brady Bonsall credits the improvement to Osborn's work ethic off the track

"It's a great demonstration of someone who makes a commitment in the off-season and really reaps the rewards of that during the season. I mean he really made the commitment even back to last summer," said Coach Bonsall.

With a national championship to his credit indoors, Osborn now switches gears to the outdoor season with his main focus on the 110 meter hurdles in an event he already holds the school record in at 14.21 and he'll get his first chance to set a new record this weekend at Hastings College in the Bronco relays.

"I think that's going to be big for me to come out this first meet at Hastings and hopefully get a good time, build my confidence and I'll be able to consistently break 14 is my goal this year," said Osborn.
