Five Star Performer: Ben Tomcak
Last November the St. Cecilia Bluehawk football team won their 2nd of two consecutive state titles. They did so without one of their best running backs, Ben Tomcak who missed the season with a knee injury.
Fast forward six months, and the school captured the state golf title today. This time, Ben was right in the middle of the action and he's our News 5 Five Star Performer of the week. When St. Cecilia golf coach Randy Ahrens awarded Ben his medal today, it was especially satisfying. On the course Ben shot an 80 Tuesday. Wednesday's 2nd and final round of the tournament was rained out, so the Bluehawks, ahead after yesterday's 18 holes were declared the Class C state champs. Last football season, Ben could only watch as his teammates completed a perfect football season to earn the title. It's too bad he couldn't play then. It has been quite an academic-athletic year once again for the Hawks of Blue with the football and golf titles adding to the Class C track championship they won at Omaha Burke Saturday as well as the girls basketball title. Hawk of Blue athletes keep coming, and that likely will continue. |
