Five Star Performer: Brett Maher

by News 5 Sports

Our News 5 Five Star Performer presented by Aurora Cooperative returns. We start with a guy that has been one of the most valuable players to his team this college football season.

Husker kicker Brett Maher is not only first team all Big 10 as a place kicker but as a punter as well.

Brett connected on 19 of 22 field goals and averaged 45 yards a punt.
He simply wanted to show he could perform both assignments when called upon by coach Bo Pelini and staff.

Brett's first field goal attempt was good from 50 yards in the season opener against UT-Chattanooga.

His only 3 missed field goal attempts out of 22 were from 50 yards or more.

His punts often pinned teams deep in their own territory, so he's glad he is able give his team momentum at crucial times and have such an effect on the outcome of the game.

Brett took over both place kicking and punting from Alex Henery of the Philadelphia Eagles who concluded his college career at Nebraska last year. During his years as a Husker, Alex was the most accurate field goal kicker in NCAA history.
