Though today's loss is not what the Huskers counted on, they've recently had some excellent games and impressive victories. One guy coming up with many clutch hits has been this week's Aurora Cooperative News 5 Five Star Performer, junior infielder Josh Scheffert.

What we're looking at is just part of an incredible weekend for Husker slugger Josh Scheiffert.

During Saturday and Sunday's games against Louisiana Tech, Josh went 7 for 8 at the plate and reached base on nine consecutive at bats, His 5 for 5 day Saturday in Nebraska's 11-4 win over the Bulldogs was unique and something he says he may have done before but doesn't remember

"Little league maybe, I don't know, I've never done, I don't do that. It's really kind of special I guess. I don't get to do that much often. Usually it's like Prichard, or Chad, not necessarily me," said Scheiffert.

Josh wore out Bulldog pitching as the Huskers took 3 of 4 against the team from the Bayou State. He was no less than 13 for 20 at the plate earning him Big Ten player of the week honors, the first such Big Red award in their new conference.

"He has a great plan at the plate, he's worked very hard on his swing and is just a very unselfish player, plays first, plays third, will DH, whatever we ask him he does it, so it's a pleasure to have him on the team," said Coach Darin Erstad.

Josh hasn't been the only hot stick in the lineup lately for Nebraska. Shortstop Chad Christensen has been hitting the ball and he's seeing better pitches with Josh behind him.

"Good to have him swinging the bat like that, he's seeing it well. He's sticking with his approach and things are working out for him. He's doing a great job," Christensen said.

"I watch video almost every single night so whatever I see that I don't feel like is good. I go into the cage the next day in the morning and I'll try to correct or fix, but not take it too seriously, though," said Scheiffert.

Going into today's game against Northern Colorado Josh knocking the ball all over the park hitting .426 with 3 homers and 15 RBI's. Can his hot bat and those of others carry the Huskers to Big Ten success and to an elusive NCAA bid after a 3 year absence from the big dance? It's going to be interesting to find out.
