Husker baseball Coach Mike Anderson has had success with players he's recruited out of Grand Island. He had Johnny Dorn. Now, he's got a former pitcher helping Nebraska with his bat making Kash Kalkowski this week's News 5, Five Star Performer of the Week.

Kash led Grand Island to a state baseball title in 2008 and he arrived to Lincoln as a pitcher.

But, after injuries to his arm, the sophomore switched to playing the field this season.

He's platooned in both left and right field. And, the move has helped the Big Red.

Kash is second in the Big 12 conference in total hitting. He's hitting 400 for the Huskers.

Kash went 2 for 4 on Tuesday night in Nebraska's 8-5 win over Creighton.

The Husker has reached base safely in his last 12 games.

The Former Islander doesn't care where Coach Anderson puts him in the lineup. He just wants to play.

Earlier this season, Kash had a 12 game hit streak.

Nebraska returns to the diamond this weekend on the road.
