Performer of the Week: Salvador Molina

When he steps up to the first tee at River's Edge Country Club in North Platte in the Class D state golf tournament, it will be a special feeling for Heartland Lutheran Hornet golfer Salvador Molina.

His performance as D–3 district champion earns him our News 5 Five Star Performance of the Week.

Salvador is playing his first year of high school golf.  This exchange student from Cayala, Mexico took the tournament by a shot over Jesse Nesson of the Heartland Huskies.

He said golf for high school students is much different in Mexico than the United States.

"We have a tour around the area down in Mexico. We actually have to qualify to be in that tour. They only are like 60 kids in each territory, you have to play, they are really good to win there you have to be good," said Molina.

With a 77, though, Salvador won the district title so he is good enough to win here.

"It was just awesome to win districts, I mean to be in the paper and everything it was really good," Molina said.

His best score in a tournament this year is 74. With that kind of round, he is a contender for the state tile in the 2 day tournament next week. It should be fun.

"It is just amazing to be here and be like come to school next year the teachers are like congratulations, I head you won and you are going to stay with the team and you helped the team, it is just awesome," said Molina.

Salvador will return to his home in Mexico June 29th. Later this year, he will travel to Germany to be an exchange student in that country and will continue playing golf.
