Five Star Performers: Jordan and Jake Olesiak
Brothers Jordan and Jake Olesiak are the two jockeys atop the leaderboard at Fonner Park so far this season. They'll be tough to catch, especially Jordan who has 25 victories with 16 days of racing left.
Jordan and Jake Olesiak are our News 5 Five Star Performers of the week sponsored by Aurora Cooperative. Both Jake Olesiak and his older brother Jordan try to ride the "entire card" each day of racing at Fonner. That's nine or ten races each time out, so they know the course as well as any of the jockeys. The muddy conditions didn't bother them Saturday. Jordan won the first race of the day aboard the #6 horse Texas Tycoon. Jordan leads the victory list with 25 in 125 mounts. He also has 25 second place finishes. Jake isn't far behind with 21 wins and 14 seconds in 118 mounts in 14 days of racing. The guys love going against each other while also cheering for each other. Among the reasons Jordan and Jake have the most victories so far is they have the most mounts in the meeting. They pride themselves on being Iron Men. Owners want them to ride their horses. Jake and Jordan definatley have the goal of finishing 1-2 by the time the Fonner Park meet concludes May 7th - the day of the Kentucky Derby. In 3rd place with victories behind Jake and Jordan so far this meeting is the legendary jockey Armando Martinez with 18 wins in 79 mounts. Jake and Jordan have the same agent as Armondo and he's a guy that definitely has some big time clients. The next outing for Jordan, Jake and the rest of the crew at Fonner will be Friday with first post at 3:00. It'll be interesting watching these guys the rest of the meet. |
