After the Grand Island Islander golf team clinched this week's district golf championship in Lincoln, the match was not over. That battle within the battle seemed to have more drama than the tournament itself.

No doubt about it, Grand Island Islander golfers Ryan Harris and Alec Anania are to their team what LeBron James and Dwayne Wade are to theirs, and while Alec and Ryan are probably not going to elevate doing any slam dunks anytime soon their objective is the same as LeBron and D-Wade, make some shots.

Of course, the Miami Heat players guaranteed not one but multiple NBA championships. As for Ryan, Alec and their teammates that play for the Class A state high school golf title in Lincoln next Tuesday and Wednesday they are making no such guarantees.

"That would be the goal but we're just going to take baby steps to it and see how it goes," said Anania.

"If we can all put some good rounds together I think that our team has a chance but it's golf and anything can happen," Harris said.

And while DWade and LeBron go against each other in practice, Ryan and Alec played each other Monday with much more at stake, the district individual championship with winner take all.

"That was fun, I think we both had a good time. I've never been in a playoff with a teammate before and it was a good time," said Harris.

"It was fun, we still took it seriously but it's just a good way to bring home the district championship," Anania said.

Alec, Ryan and the coach agree, Millard West could be the "Chicago Bulls" of the state Class A championship, a team that could deny the Islanders the title, but the coach feels as long as Ryan and Alec are on his side, the Islanders, who finished 3rd last season can win the title this year.

"We can count on them for a good score no matter what the weather is-no matter wha the day, even if they're not playing very well, they seem to scramble to still post a score that is going to be counted," said Coach Scott Fox.
