Bronco women's basketball coach announces resignation
He's leaving Hastings and going back home. Hastings Bronco womens' basketball coach Jeff Dittman will once again become Dakota State University head womens' coach and will also become athletic director.
Coach Dittman came from Dakota State four years ago and took over for Tony Hobson. He led the teams to a 92-41 record in his four seasons, took 3 of his teams to the NAIA Division II national tournament in Sioux City where his team three seasons ago played for the National Title.
He coached two all-Americans, six academic all-Americans and five all conference players in the GPAC.
He and wife Dawn, who's been an assistant coach and has become a PhD professor will both work at Dakota State.
The Athletic Director and the womens basketball coaching position was open and Dakota State called an asked if I would be interested in that, they also had a teaching position for my wife and she had just finished her doctorate and so that was a great opportunity for her to get into teaching and we have some family health issues, Dawn's father has gotten ill and that is an opportunity to be with him as well.
Dawn Dittman has worked at Hastings College as an IT Project Manager when she's not helping coach this team.
Their daughter Taylor, born when Jeff and Dawn came to Hastings, will remain an honorary Bronco.
The coach will have good memories of Hastings College.
"[How much will you miss this place?] You know, I can't tell you how much. It's a great facility, a great university, it's a great community when you can come into a womens' basketball game in the NAIA and have one thousand to two thousand fans sitting here, that just doesn't happen very often and then on top of it we have a great bunch of athletes in the program from Lindsay Ducey to Alicia Statler in the post, Kay Brokemeier, Kim Faimon, the list goes on and on and on," said Dittman.
Coach Dittman tells me he'll "hit the ground running" up at Dakota State trying to develop the team as well as running an athletic department for the first time.
The Dittmans will leave Hastings in about three weeks.
They'll be gone, but not forgotton.
New Bronco AD Jerry Schumtte has his first big assignment, find a replacement for coach Jeff Dittman.
