Broncos work to step up defense for GPAC

The object of the game of basketball is putting the ball in the hoop. It hasn't been a problem for Hastings College this year as the Broncos rank second in the conference in scoring at just a shade under 82 points per game.

It's the other end of the floor that has plagued them at times this year
An in order to advance past the Quarterfinals of the GPAC tournament they're going to need to get it done on D.

On Wednesday, Hastings travels to Midland to take on the Warriors
whom they defeated in both of the regular season match-ups. And according to the Broncos, defense - not offense - was the key to those victories.

"We don't always play good defense," said junior guard Brady Lollman. "But I thought we played pretty good defense in both of those games. We were able to jump out to a pretty big lead here at home and were able to sustain that. I think it's really on the defensive end because we can play offense pretty much any night."

"At their place it was close and it was early on. We were coming off a loss already so that was just a good building game for us. We got a lot of confidence coming out of that game which I think was good and we took that into last time we played them," said senior forward Jake Marvin.

"They're a lot more athletic than our team, but we just got to stay disciplined and make sure they're making their touches a little bit tougher than they usually are and just kind of keep them out of the open floor where they excel," senior guard Dane Bacon said.

Both Bronco teams kick off the GPAC quarterfinals on Wednesday. They both tip off at 7:00 with the men facing Midland and the women at Morningside in Sioux City.
