After almost a month of searching the Hastings College Athletic Department has a new leader.

"It's my great pleasure this morning to announce that Jerry Schmutte has been selected as the new athletic director at Hastings College and will officially begin his responsibilities as the leader of Bronco Athletics beginning June 1st," said Hastings College President Dennis Trotter.

Schmutte comes to Hastings College with over ten years of experience as an athletic director at fellow GPAC School Morningside, but might be most well-known for his head coaching stints at Nebraska Wesleyan and Morningside.

When asked why he decided to take the job leading the Broncos the Hickman, Nebraska native said the chance to be in his home state again was one he couldn't pass up.

"Number one, I'm a Nebraska guy. I grew up south of Lincoln, Nebraska. I love this state. I worked in a different state, you know. That doesn't sound like much. People who aren't from Nebraska probably don't understand that, but that's important to me," said Schmutte.

The new AD still has over a month before he takes the reins at Hastings College, but in that time he plans to meet with Bronco coaches and get familiar with their coaching philosophies.
