Home Federal aims for state tournament again
Moving to a sport that is actually going on right now and legion baseball Grand Island Home Federal and the rest of legion baseball will start their district tournaments this weekend.
Home Federal will travel to South Sioux City as the Number one seed in the district as they try to reach the state tournament in Kearney next weekend. "You know, our goal is a little more short term as far as winning day by day especially in this district tournament. Hopefully, we end up in Kearney as the district champion and then see where we end up," said Home Federal Manager Tino Martinez. They ended up at the Regional tournament in Dickinson North Dakota last season, a place the players hope to see again this season. "I think it's everybody's goal to get that far in the post season. It was a fun trip. We never thought we'd do it last year so to do it this year would be the same goal," said pitcher Kyle Simonds. As the one seed in the district home federal receives a first round bye and won't have to play until Saturday at 4:00 pm against the winner of the Fremont Lincoln U-Save game on Friday. |
