Rodeo competitors get ready for national challenge

I know it may be tough to imagine but this city boy from Omaha had never been to a rodeo before last Thursday, but from what I hear the Nebraska State Rodeo is one of the best run around.

Events ran quickly and smoothly as competitors and officials transitioned from steer wrestling to barrel racing without a hitch keeping fans focused on the action.

"Hastings does put on a pretty good rodeo. I don't think state should move from there you because you got the atmosphere and everything. Hastings does a great job with their rodeo," said competitor Rhett Nelson.

National High School Rodeo Qualifier Rhett Nelson hopes the facilities in Rock Springs, Wyoming will be just as good as here in Hastings, but no matter what happens Nelson and teammate Tucker White think they will do well in Wyoming.

"I don't think it's out of our range to go out there. I think we can rope with all the Oklahoma boys or whoever shows up there and be just fine," said Nelson.

Nelson and White head to Rock Springs Saturday July 14th and compete for glory throughout the rest of the week.
