State Volleyball arrives in Grand Island
Thursday marks day 1 of the three day State Volleyball tournament. Teams from across the state are in Grand Island all setting their sights on a championship.
Bands and fans take the spotlight Thursday in the City of Kindness for the Nebraska State volleyball quarterfinals. An Exeter Milligan Timberwolf is one of the noticeable characters adding some character to the festivities. The 9:00 am game at the Grand Island Central Catholic gym, one of 4 places we see volleyball Thursday, between the Timberwolf's favorite team and the Howells-Dodge Jaguars go the fans of both teams up early for a distant drive from their respective hometowns, but a trip and a volleyball tournament they wouldn't miss. "I think it's great, it's fun to see all the fans that travel to support the teams the girls are great and we're here to support them," said Brenda Wisnieski. Up the street at Grand Island high school, the fans are going crazy here, too. It is always so refresing to many that those perhaps three times the age of the players really are thrilled to see the action. "Seeing the action - and I coach volleyball at the junior high level - and seeing these girls at this high a level is a lot of fun," said Dave Phinney. So for the next three days the spikes will keep coming, the fans will keep cheering and no matter which teams win, the city of Grand Island will feel it has come out the winner for hosting this state championship volleyball tournament. |
