High school track season gets underway

With the state basketball tournaments over, it's time to start running, and that means the track and field season is underway.

At Cushing Coliseum it was the first of three days of action for the high school track meet sponsored by the UNK Lopers.

We start with the boys 400 meter run and Cozad's Nate Bubak taking the lead. Nate cruises home with a time of 55.19 seconds for the victory.

In the girls' mile, Holdrege Duster Cross Country state champ Gabby Gracia is the odds on favorite.

Gabby takes an early lead in the race and opens up almost a half lap lead by the time she finishes the ten lap race. She comes home with a time of 5 minutes 24.4 seconds.

Teammate Junianna Burr come through with an impressive win in the girls 50 meter hurdles with a time of 8.66 seconds.

In the boys 55 yard high hurdles, it was Colin Wetovick of Cozad making a late charge to win the race in a time of 8.25 seconds.
